You Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover

I am now a proud member of a book club.   I think we all understand when a fine group of women get together, conversations and topics are going to range all over the place.  Rarely will it stay focused on the book itself.   We went from discussing the school district budget to questioning what you call someone who both digitally scrapbooks AND traditionally scrapbooks.  By the way, you can call them biscraptual.

So over fabulous tea and delicious chocolate chip cookies THAT HAVE PUDDING IN THEM
we came up with great book ideas, some that are on a spiritual realm and some that are not.
Nobody liked my suggestion of reading the book "Alterknits - Felting Yarn with Leigh Radford."  Still can't figure out why????

We discussed the possibility of reading Judy Blume's "Super Fudge" series. A total no brainer.  How could you NOT read Super Fudge?

Next up was the Anne of Green Gables series because there is also a DVD set to accompany the books.  What more could one ask for?

The ENTIRE Laura Ingalls Wilder series came up for discussion because I think we all still have a crush on Almanzo.

We took a wrong turn and headed down retro lane for some Jane Austen.  Always a safe bet when you can't decide.

A side note here...one of the gals said she didn't want to read anything with sex in it OR about people having sex with a bunch of other people so all my suggestions became null and void at that point.

More suggestions,

The Help
Underneath the Overpass
Same Kind of Different as Me
Reading Lolita in Tehran
To Kill a Mockingbird
Signature Sins
The Ladies Detective Agency  (which I believe my husband has read parts of?)

Finally we thought about books that were made into movies.  That way we could justify movie nights 'in order to compare the quality of the book with the film.'

Those included,

Water for Elephants (soon to be released in a film starring Reese Witherspoon)
Joy Luck CLub
My Sister's Keeper
The Secret Life of Bees
Diary of a Wimpy Kid (my suggestion of course)

So the winner?  The Secret Life of Bees.

Yes, there will be a movie night in the near future.  Total score!

  1. It was truly a fun night!!! My favorite comment of the night was, "I'm not reading some dumb book about carrots."
