I'm Going To Be In A Book

Yup.  That's right. The book is coming out around the holidays, aptly named, "Surviving the Holidays."
I'll be doing a free giveaway when it is released because for one, I am generous.
Also, I'm not above self promotion.

I'll be able to share a little more about this delightful little read as we get closer to it's release date.

I wish I could say one of my pieces chosen for this anthology was due to my sheer writing prowess.  Sadly, it was the cookies that got me the gig.  Cookies, people.  They are powerful and carry weight, literally, all on their own.  I'm not arguing.

So, my contribution to this book is in the form of a family recipe that has been circulating for the past 40 some odd years. Basically, they are as old as I am and Grandma has passed down the recipe to the rest of our undeserving family.  You can't duplicate love like that.  Well, you can try but my grandma will always win.

So, in the spirit of Autumn and the fact that it will be published, I share with you this beloved little cookie.
Thank you dear grandma for the inspiration.

It's A Family Tradition Molasses Cookies

My recipe is for a single batch, but who are we kidding?  I always double it.

Combine the following:
3/4 cup Canola oil
1 Cup Sugar (I use half brown and half white)
1/4 Cup Molasses
1 Egg
1 tsp Vanilla

Mix together the following dry ingredients:
2 tsp Baking Soda
2 C all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp Cloves
1/2 tsp Ginger
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Salt

Cream oil, sugar(s), molasses, egg and vanilla together, either by hand or with a mixer on medium speed.  Beat well until nicely combined.

Add flour, baking soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt.  Mix together gently until flour has been incorporated.  Form into 1 inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.

I like to bake at 350.  They don't take long to bake, only about 10 min so watch carefully. A good rule of thumb is when you see the surfaces develop a cracked appearance, pull them out.

Share with those you love.

Stay tuned for my book giveaway!
