Trailer Trash

Just because something is free, doesn't mean it's a good deal.

A year ago, Lucky and I were given a free RV.  Long story short, we were helping a guy out and the only down payment he had was in the form of a home on wheels.  We thought this was our opportunity to outfit a vintage camper that fit our sense of style and would create lasting memories.  We envisioned lazy summer afternoons vacationing river side with the kids in our precious get a way trailer.
I had hopes for darling fabric to outfit our new windows, chalkboard paint for the kids and a cozy dinette ready for family meals.

Instead....this is what we got.  We aren't sure if meth was actually cooked in it but chances are pretty good.  Our 'down payment' came in the form of a 1986 Bounder, straight from Breaking Bad hell.
The only thing going for us was the fact it ran like a dream.  Go figure.  I guess all the trips out to the desert to cook meth weren't so bad after all.

Even though our newly acquired RV had the appeal of a terminal disease, we still looked at it with hope.  What if we were to completely gut the thing and start from scratch?  So, that's what we did.  We gutted it down to the plywood on the floor and then life happened, things got busy and Winter set in.  Our Breaking Bad vehicle got put on the back burner, no pun intended.  OK, maybe a little pun intended.

Needless to say, we parked it and basically forgot about it.  Our dear friends with property let us store it out at their place but came to a point that the neighbors were tired of the eye sore and wanted it moved.  Can this sound any more trashy?  I think not.

It was time to decide the fate of Jesse and Walter's trailer and since lighting it on fire wasn't the best option, we decided to list the mother on Craig's List.  We were actually planning on giving it away.  We figured even by giving it away, we still made a profit because it was out of our lives.  On the advice of our friends however, decided why not, let's try to get some cash out of the deal simply for the emotional trauma it had caused.

"Straight off the set of Breaking Bad , this charmer runs like a dream.  Already gutted for whatever drug lab you choose to set up, this little beauty can get you out of town fast."

We listed it for 700 bucks and immediately phone calls started pouring in,  enough that setting up appts became necessary.  Yes, calls even came from Hawaii and Florida.  The ad went flippin viral.

The first 'interested party' arrived at promptly 6:30 am, declared they wanted it and asked if they could meet in the Wal Mart parking lot to finish the transaction.

How very fitting.

  3. Almost choked on my tuna and crackers when I saw the picture of what it actually looked like. Hilarious. I'll bet you could have gotten a lot more than $700 for it! Keep these blog posts coming.
